BEAM MANAGEMENT MODELS IN 5G NR NETWORKS. PART 1. BEAM ALIGNMENT DURING LINK ESTABLISHMENT
DOI: 10.22184/2070-8963.2022.101.1.42.49

A breakthrough R&D direction for fifth-generation and beyond ultra-dense radio access networks is the new adaptive beamforming capabilities not only in fixed gNB base stations, but also in portable user devices UE, driven by the transition of the 5G NR radio interface to the millimeter wave (MMW) frequencies. The gNB and UE’s narrow beam operation compensates for the high propagation loss in the MMW by significantly higher gains of adaptive antenna beamforming transceivers. For the practical realization of this advantage, it is necessary to solve the well-known problem of preliminary alignment of the beams. The first part of the study on 5G NR beam management models formalizes the relevant 3GPP procedures together with the simulation results of the beam alignment mechanism for the initial UE connection to the gNB.

HIGH AMBITIONS OF LOW ORBITS
DOI: 10.22184/2070-8963.2022.101.1.30.34

On February, 16 the annual conference #SpaceCom Digital Russia 2022 was held. Experts in the field of satellite communications discussed the prospects of transformation of satellite communications industry, the dynamics of its development, and global trends at the intersection of telecom and infocommunications. The experts disagreed on a number of technological solutions, systems and high-profile projects, the development of which is watched with interest not only by representatives of the satellite industry.

IMPACT OF ELEVATED TEMPERATURE ON THE LENGTH LIMIT OF THE COPPER SCS CHANNELS
DOI: 10.22184/2070-8963.2022.101.1.14.19

The prospects of application of the Power over Ethernet technology for modern in-house information and telecommunication systems are presented. The necessity of additional verification calculation in case of fixed line length over 75 m is justified. Theoretical models and calculation results are presented. The necessity of use of element base of cat. 6 and higher in structured cabling systems designs implying application of PoE technology has been underlined.

FEATURES OF 5G SYCHRONIZATION NETWORKS: ARCHITECTURE, PROTOCOLS AND ALGORITHMS
DOI: 10.22184/2070-8963.2022.101.1.52.60

5G networks deployment in Russia sets a task of not only frequency resource allocating for 5G, optimal coverage by radio access networks, but also effectively synchronization network development that ensures the stable operation of both 5G Core and 5G NR networks. In addition to the synchronization network built on basis of precision time signals of global satellite radio navigation systems and GLONASS/GPS/Galileo signal receivers, the 5G network operator can also use the synchronization network built on precise time protocol (PTP) (IEEE 1588v2) basis and SyncE physical layer synchronous Ethernet technology as alternative variant. The paper is devoted to analysis of building 5G synchronization networks features, as well as the 5G synchronization network requirements for ITU-T and 3GPP.

TESTING TECHNOLOGIES OF OPTICAL FIBERS EXTRUSION PROTECTION INTO CLOSURES ON AERIAL FOCLS
DOI: 10.22184/2070-8963.2022.101.1.20.25

The testing methods of optical fibers extrusion protection into a closure cassette developed in PSUTI, including the pressure and climatic tests are presented. A testing method of optical fiber extrusion protection from an optical module by controlling changes in fiber losses in a closure is described.

FIBER OPTIC TRANSPORT NETWORKS: ENSURING PRIVACY AND SECURITY
DOI: 10.22184/2070-8963.2022.101.1.66.74

The need to transfer large amounts of data between data centers (DC) to provide high-performance computing processes and operation of business-critical applications is growing. Fiber-optic transport networks, especially those that provide interconnections between multiple DC’s sites, must maintain a high level of security. Traditionally, security threats come from malware or amateur hackers. Their goals are most often profit from the sale of intellectual property, financial information and even extortion. The paper discusses data protection technologies, as well as ways to ensure the security of fiber-optic transport networks.
